Our Store is LIVE

Our passion for Project Kalaā is rooted in the pride we take in objects that time has forgotten. The beauty, charm and nostalgia they carry deserve to be done justice, in whatever way we promote them.

We have tried, failed, tried again, and failed again at representing what our objects are. Our first attempt at a website, in 2025, felt less original. It felt like “get it done with.” The objects seemed stripped of their glory and put on a relentless journey of commercial selling. We did not settle for it, and we’re glad we didn’t.

We don’t own a physical store, at least not yet, so we envisioned this website being curated the way we would curate a store. Every smallest detail about our objects (their pictures, the fonts we use, the sections, the pages, the policies) must speak of us and our objects the way we would if you had met us face to face. We wanted it to be nothing short of a storybook, with one exception: every story in it is true to the object it belongs to.

Ash and I spent months, and a lot of emotion, building this, and we still feel nervous about it. There is something good about being nervous, though. It keeps us grounded. It keeps things about the objects and not just about selling. It keeps us motivated to learn, and to bring a better experience to the small yet impactful community we have built. It keeps us at the cornerstone of an everlasting journey: a “PROJECT” of finding art in lost objects, of finding “Kalaā.”
